It was a day to be remembered for Keerthi Raghavan. September 8,
2001. The boy from Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, along with
teammate Siddhartha Banerjee, won for the second consecutive year
the Delhi regional finals of the The Hindu-Young World quiz held
in Talkatora indoor stadium in New Delhi. DPS had annexed the
second place in the All-India finals held in Chennai November
last.
The second annual quiz by The Hindu-Young World got off to a
rousing start with 210 teams participating in the preliminary
round of the Delhi regionals. Quiz master V. V. Ramanan fired
away 25 volleys for the written round. Six top scoring schools
were selected for the finals which was held immediately
thereafter. Beginning with The Headlines and going on to Plain
Vanilla, Know your city, Multi-media masala, Topsy-turvy and the
final pulsating buzzer round Stop Press, saw the finalists
battling it out to the end.
Springdales had two teams in the top six, the A team walking away
with the second prize of Rs. 3000 each and Dishnet internet
access kits. The third prize went to the boys from St.Francis
school. A plethora of prizes awaited the regional winners - the
Delhi Public School,
R.K .Puram. A cash prize of Rs. 4000 each , a Hercules Thriller
MTB from TI Cycles, Dishnet internet access kits worth Rs. 800, a
Nike totebag sponsored by Eveready, and Programming Crorepathis
certificates from Fourth R. Attractive prizes were up for grabs
for the audience rounds as well and the stands came alive, and
how! The Magsaysay award winner Ms Kiran Bedi gave away the
prizes to the delight of the students and all assembled.The event
managed by Letsquiz.com was sponsored by Eveready, Nutrine,
Hercules Cycles, Dishnet, Fourth R, Coke and Jet Airways.
