Tiff with preachers: 5 remanded

GANGTOK, SEPT. 16. A Sikkim court on Saturday remanded to 15 days' judicial custody five persons, including two school teachers, arrested on September 12, after an altercation with a group of Christian preachers, led by a senior official, at Khamdong in east district, police said today.

The incident took place on September 11 when the religious group was preaching with a loudspeaker near the Khamdong School compound. The teachers and some locals objected to it and asked them to lower the volume so that the students were not disturbed. Later in the evening, when the preachers were arranging to screen a video film, it was again objected to by the locals resulting in an altercation.
