Enhanced vigil along J&K borders
JAMMU, SEPT. 16. The Army is maintaining enhanced vigil along
borders in Jammu and Kashmir even as ``routine'' firing and
shelling were reported in some sectors along the Line of Control
(LoC) and the international border since Saturday, a Defence
spokesman said here today.
Army troops have been asked to maintain round-the- clock vigil
along the borders to thwart any attempt of infiltration and
exfiltration, which usually increases before the onset of winter,
the Northern Command spokesman said in Udhampur.
He said Pakistani troops had resorted to routine firing in some
sectors along the border in Jammu and along the LoC in the
Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region. Mortar shelling had also
been reported in some areas of Rajouri and Poonch sectors during
the past two days, he said, adding ``our troops were giving
appropriate response to Pakistani firing''. Meanwhile, BSF troops
shot dead one Pakistani intruder in R.S. Pura sector, while a
girl was injured in Pakistani firing in Ramgarh sector of Jammu
division on Saturday, official reports said here today.
