Jana to attend BJP State meet

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 16. The BJP president, Mr. Jana Krishnamurthy, will arrive here on September 20 to attend the party's two-day State Executive meeting at Kurnool.

His visit assumes significance against the backdrop of the imminent disciplinary action against the rebel BJP MP, Mr. A. Narendra, if he goes ahead with his plans to launch a forum for Telangana at a convention of partymen on September 19.

Mr. C. Ramachandra Reddy, BJP State president, once again urged Mr. Narendra, who resigned earlier as party's vice-president, to drop his plans to start a separate forum as it would amount to anti-party activity.

At a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Reddy appealed to the BJP workers not to participate in the convention as it would run contrary to the BJP high command's stated position that the Telangana issue should not be raised till 2004 as it did not constitute part of the NDA's agenda. Moreover, this was a time for every party leader and worker to strengthen the hands of the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee.

Answering a question, he said the issue of initiating disciplinary action against Mr. Narendra would be discussed at the Kurnool meeting in case he did not abandon his plans.

He said Mr. Krishnamurthy, who would be visiting the city for the first time after assuming the party's post, would be accorded a big reception at the airport at 7.30 p.m. and taken out in a procession to the party office. He would attend the meetings of party office-bearers on September 21 and the State Executive on the following day.
