'Good will ultimately triumph over evil'

By Our Special Correspondent

HUBLI, SEPT. 16. The Working Chairman of the Vishwa Hindu Parishat International, Mr. Ashok Singhal, has asked Muslims in the country to choose between people such as Osama Bin Laden, who is spewing hatred, intolerance, and hatred, and others who are trying to bring peace and prosperity to the world.

Mr. Singhal made this observation while replying to felicitations offered to him on his 75th birthday, organised under the joint auspices of the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishat here on Saturday night.

Addressing a huge congregation after attending a youth rally at the Nehru Maidan, Mr. Singhal said that from the events in the past few days, it was clear that the world was getting divided into a section that believed in violence and the other that was striving for peaceful co-existence.

In the present global crisis, Mr. Singhal said the time had come for Hindus to emerge as a powerful catalytic agent and restore the values of righteousness and human peace. India was destined to play a crucial role in injecting new values in life in the coming years, Mr. Singhal said.

He said that the die had been cast, and nothing could change the date on which the construction of the Ram Temple would begin. He said he welcomed the statement of the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B.Vajpayee, that the issue would be resolved before March next.

Mr. Singhal was critical of those who raised doubts about the bonafides of the site for construction of the temple as the birthplace of the Lord Rama. This had been amply borne out by the wealth of historical and archeological evidence which had been unearthed, he said.

The time had come for youth to remain calm and unmoved and resist any efforts to swerve them from the chosen path. People should await a number of "miracles," which were bound to happen in the coming days when "good forces try to gain ascendancy over evil ones." In the ultimate analysis, it would be a repetition of what happened in the Ramayana, with Ravana, "the incarnation of the evil," being vanquished.
