Transco commissions 396-km line
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, SEPT. 16. The AP Transco successfully commissioned the
400 KV Khammam-Hyderabad transmission line of 396 circuit km in a
record 15 months on Saturday.
Costing Rs. 116 crores, this line is part of the Simhadri
Transmission Project funded by the Japan Bank for International
Cooperation (JBIC) with a total outlay of Rs. 814.27 crores. It
is in line with the Corporation's endeavour to expand the 400 KV
network in the State for better evacuation and substantially
improved voltage reliability.
As part of the electricity reforms for the evacuation of 4,000 MW
additional capacity and providing reliable power, the Transco is
expanding the transmission system with additional 400 KV sub-
stations at Visakhapatnam (already under erection), Vemagari
(East Godavari district), Gajwel (Medak), Dichpally (Nizamabad),
Nellore, Chittoor and Mahabubnagar at a total cost of around Rs.
885 crores.
This was stated by the CMD of the Transco, Mr. P. Ramakanth
Reddy, and the Director, Projects, Mr. T. R. C. Bose, while
reviewing the progress of transmission schemes in the pipeline.
The Simhadri Transmission scheme covers 400 KV double circuit
line of 720 circuit km from Vizag to Khammam and 650 circuit km
from Vizag-Vemagiri-Nunna (Vijayawada). Works on the 400 KV
substation and Vizag-Khammam line are in progress and programmed
to be commissioned before February next year.
The new line now commissioned will feed additional load demand in
Khammam, Nalgonda, Medak, Rangareddi and Warangal district
besides improving system voltage at Hyderabad by six kilo volts
(KV), reducing line losses by 13 MW, provide an alternate supply
to the City and stabilise the system conditions in and around the
capital. It is in tune with the goal of advancing the generation
programme at the 1,000 MW Simhadri Thermal Power Station at
Visakhapatnam.
The Transco had earlier commissioned a major 400 KV network for
the evacuation of Srisailam Left Bank Hydro complex comprising
two 400 KV sub-stations at Hyderabad and Kurnool and 880 circuit
km of 400 KV lines with JBIC loan at a total cost of Rs. 374
crores.
Meanwhile, the AP Transco Engineers' Association has
congratulated Mr. Bose on getting the line charged within 15
months, which was a national record. It also complimented Mr. V.
Parmeswara Rao, Chief Engineer for 400 KV lines & sub-stations,
and his team of engineers for commissioning the line on
`Engineers Day' which is observed on the birth anniversary of
Mokshagundam Visweswarayya.
