Akram may play for NCU

DURBAN, SEPT. 16. The Natal Cricket Union (NCU) has set its eyes on veteran Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram to be its international player since the original choice Javagal Srinath was not available.

Managing director of NCU, Cassim Docrat, said since Srinath was part of the Indian team which tours South Africa later this month, the Union was now hoping to rope in Akram who was likely to be available after New Zealand cancelled its scheduled tour of Pakistan. ``We were looking at Srinath but he is in the Indian squad to tour here,'' Docrat said.

``Now that the New Zealand tour to Pakistan has been cancelled because of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, our Union is hoping that Akram will be available to join the province. During the week we will have people looking into this possibility. If Wasim is available we'd go for him. The cancellation of the New Zealand tour will help our cause,'' Docrat said.
