Dindigul to be one of S.S. Rajan Trophy venues

DINDIGUL, SEPT. 16. Dindigul will be one of the seven venues for the first round league matches of the S.S. Rajan Trophy senior inter- district cricket tournament, which will get underway at all the venues on Tuesday.

Twenty-eight teams are on the fray and they are divided into seven zones of four teams each for the first round matches (50 overs basis).

Fourteen teams (two from each zone) will qualify for the second round league (50 overs basis) which will be played in four groups. The winner of each group will qualify for the semifinals (two-day matches). The final will be a three-day affair (dates and venues for semifinals and final to be fixed later).

Zones, venues and teams for the first round matches: A Zone (venue-Thiruvallur): Vellore, Pudukottai, Thiruvannamalai, Thiruvallur; B Zone (Namakkal): Coimbatore, Salem, Namakkal, Nilgiris; C Zone (Virudhunagar, Sivakasi): Cuddalore, Virudhunagar, Villupuram, Madurai); D Zone (Dindigul): Dindigul, Theni, Erode, Tiruchi; E Zone (Tirunelveli): Dharmapuri, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari; F Zone (Thanjavur): Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Pondicherry; G Zone (Kanchipuram): Karur, Sivagangai, Tuticorin, Kanchipuram.
