Kim Dae-Sub wins Korean Open

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 16. Local boy Kim Dae-Sub walked away with the Korean Open Trophy, played at Seoul, while India's Arjun Atwal finished joint eighth after firing a one-over-par 71 in the final round on Sunday.

Atwal, who was in brilliant form firing three-under and five- under in the first two rounds, had slipped to joint ninth on Saturday after a par-72 round. He finished with an aggregate of eight-under 280, according to information received here.

Kim started the Davidoff Tour event with a six-under 66 followed by five-under 65 and after a battling third round, the 19-year- old amateur finished a stroke ahead of in-form American Andrew Pitts (204).

Kim, who had also won this event in 1998 aged just 16, announced after the victory that he was turning pro immediately. ``I will turn professional now and play in the next week's event as pro,'' he said.

Kim's impressive 16-under 272, a tournament record, was three strokes better than compatriot park Do-Kyu, who finished with a four-round aggregate of 13-under 275.

Sharing the third place at ten-under 277 were Korean amateur Kwon Ki-Taek and South African James Kingston.

Amritinder Singh and Arjun Singh had managed to make the cut with one-under-143 at halfway mark in the tournament but lost their way in the third round.

Vivek Bhandari, Jyoti Randhawa and Amandeep Johl had a disappointing outing as they missed the mark. England's nick Faldo, a six-time major winner, was one of the big name casualties to miss the cut.
