Bomb hoax causes panic in City hotel
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, SEPT. 17. The terrorist attacks in the U.S. appear to
have come in handy for trouble makers to cause panic in
Bangalore.
On Monday, unidentified persons called a leading hotel in the
City saying that a bomb had been planted there. However, it
turned out to be a hoax.
Around 11.30 a.m., the Infantry Court hotel on Infantry Road
received a call that a bomb would explode in the hotel at 12.10
p.m. The hotel administration got the occupants of 30 rooms of
the hotel's 70 rooms evacuated and informed police.
Police arrived with sniffer dogs and searched the hotel, but no
bombs or explosives were found.
On why fire tenders were not brought to the hotel, police said
that if that was done on receiving every such hoax call, it would
cause needless panic among the public. Moreover, big buildings
had their own fire extinguishing systems, they pointed out. In
any eventuality, fire fighters could be pressed into service
within minutes, they added.
