One for BJP, one for Congress
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 22. The BJP and the Congress today bagged one
parliamentary seat each in Rajasthan and Gujarat retaining Tonk
(SC) and Sabarkantha constituencies respectively as the Assam
Chief Minister, Mr. Tarun Gogoi, won the Titabor Assembly seat in
the by-elections held in six States on Thursday.
While the Congress bagged three of the seven Assembly seats apart
from Titabor, the Telugu Desam Party suffered a setback when its
former Deputy Speaker, Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao, won the Siddipet
Assembly seat on the plank of a separate Telengana State with a
huge margin of 58,000 votes over his nearest TDP rival.
The TDP, however, retained the Vuyyur Assembly seat.
The Congress won the Sabarmati Assembly seat in Gujarat and the
12-Pakke-Kesang seat in Arunachal Pradesh.
The BJD retained the Rairakhol (SC) Assembly seat in Orissa.
