Russia cautions U.S. on Pak.
By Vladimir Radyuhin
MOSCOW, SEPT. 22. The Russian President, Mr. Vladimir Putin, has
cautioned Washington against bending Pakistan too hard to support
U.S. strikes in Afghanistan.
``Have you seen newscasts of what is happening in Pakistan?,''
Mr. Putin asked a reporter. ``We must realise that some
complicated processes are under way in the world. And we must
support those Governments which really side up with the
international community in its struggle against terrorism, but
only those Governments which are really willing to do so... We
must act with caution and be prudent in what we say to avoid
provoking people.''
In his first full-length interview since the terrorist attacks on
Washington and New York, Mr. Putin described Islamic terrorism as
``one of the most real threats'' but was sceptical about the
expected U.S. strikes at terrorist bases in Afghanistan.
