NCP wins in Daund
PUNE, SEPT. 22.The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate,
Ms. Ranjana Kul, defeated her nearest rival, Mr. Vasudeo Kale
(BJP), by a margin of 61,978 votes in the by-election to the
Daund Assembly constituency in Pune district.
The poll was necessitated by the death of sitting MLA, Subhash
Kul (NCP), a few months ago.
Of the three candidates in the fray, Ms. Kul polled 91,840 votes,
Mr. Kale 29,862 and Mr. Salim Mohamad Sheikh (Ind) 4,723.
For the first time, electronic voting machines were used.
