Building collapses on D.V.G. Road
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, SEPT. 22. A scooter and some furniture were damaged
when an old building, housing a hotel, collapsed in Basavanagudi
Police Station limits during early hours of Saturday following
heavy rains.
The building located on Dr. D.V.Gundappa Road. which housed Hotel
Chandra Bhavan, caved in around 1.45 a.m. Employees of the hotel,
including a child, who were inside the building, ran to safety
through the rear exit as the front portion started collapsing. No
one was injured, police said.
However, a scooter parked on the footpath was damaged when it
came under the debris. Basavanagudi police have registered a
case.
The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) issued a notice to the
building owner, Mr. Kodandapani, on December 12, 1987, asking him
to dismantle the structure which was in a ``ruinous state and
posing danger to the public safety and property''.
Despite the notice served by the BMP, Mr. Kodandapani had not got
the building dismantled. The BMP had not taken necessary measures
in this regard thereafter.
