A music bargain bazaar coming to town
By Anjali Malhotra
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 22. This ``bargain sale'' will mean just that.
For music lovers in the Capital it will be bonanza time and they
can add to their collection as never before as the first-of-its-
kind ``Music Collector's Bargain Sale'' comes to town this coming
week.
With over 2,000 titles, including sound tracks from Bollywood
blockbusters such as ``Mohabbatein'' and ``Dil Chahata Hai''
available at throwaway prices -- cassettes priced from Rs. 10 to
12 and CDs around Rs. 75 -- the ``Music Collector's Bargain
Sale'' promises to be a haven for music lovers. Besides ``filmi
music'', the range includes Indi-Pop, devotional, rock as well as
international albums.
The four-day basket sale beginning September 27 will provide a
common platform for music companies to offload their ``dead
stock'' of cassettes and CDs and an opportunity for music
enthusiasts to invest in their passion.
Pulling out their ``dead stock'' for this mega-sale are well-
known music companies like HMV, T-Series, Magna Sound and
Archies. ``There is always a certain percentage of stock that is
not sold in the market and finds its way back from distributors
to the music companies. The music companies call this `slow-
moving stock' but in reality it is dead stock as it keeps lying
in their warehouses,'' says Mr. Jerry Almedia of Manthan, the
event management company that conceived the idea. ``This will
give them an opportunity to offload this stock and for the
buyers, well, as they say, `it's a steal'.''
The event will be hosted at three centres -- Rajouri Garden,
Lajpat Nagar and Karol Bagh -- which, depending on the demand,
may be increased. The sale will be formally launched on September
26 evening at Karol Bagh where artistes like Vipin Aneja, Bobby
Cash, Shamsher Mehendi, Mahinder Pal and Shibani Kashyap will
entertain customers. Over the next four months, the sale will
travel to major cities across the country.
The sale will also benefit various social organisations. A
percentage of the proceeds will go to ``HelpAge India'', ``Save
the Children'' and ``People For Animals''. A part of the profits
will also go to the anti-piracy campaign.
