Mixed response to bandh
RANCHI, SEPT. 22. The 12-hour Jharkhand bandh called jointly by
the Adivasi Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch (AJJM) and the Adivasi
Chatra Sangh (ACS) to protest the State Government's reservation
policy evoked mixed response today.
The bandh was generally peaceful, the Director General of Police,
Mr. T.P. Sinha said. Major business establishments downed their
shutters, but some small shops were open.
The Bandh was called to protest the State Government's
reservation policy which accords 32 per cent reservation to
tribals in government jobs in the State. The AJJM and ACS had
been demanding 60 per cent reservation for tribals.
