'U.S. will not accept n-tests'
By Sridhar Krishnaswami
WASHINGTON, SEPT. 24. The White House has said that the lifting
of sanctions against India and Pakistan does not signal that the
United States will accept nuclear tests in return for support to
the National Missile Defence plan.
The White House spokesman, Mr. Ari Fleischer, made it known that
the Bush administration's anti-proliferation credentials remained
strong.
``As Secretary Powell said yesterday, that (meaning sanctions)
has been an issue that had actually been under discussion for
quite some time; that has been talked about with Members of
Congress and the action was taken,'' Mr. Fleischer said.
