Govt. for industrial promotion: CM
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI, SEPT. 24. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu,
has said that the State Government is committed to promote
industries and generate revenue as well as employment in rural
pockets in general and in Chittoor, his native district, in
particular.
Mr. Naidu, who assured all help from the State Government to
entrepreneurs willing to set up units, announced on Monday
certain measures to woo industrialists and sustain their
interests as well. He pointed out that the Government had come
forward to develop infrastructure in the State at a cost of Rs.
100 crores as mentioned in its new policy announced recently.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a function organised to
inaugurate the new Greenfield automotive plant of Amara Raja
Batteries Limited (ARBL) at Karakambadi near here.
He said he was reviewing the activities and performance of Small
Industries Promotion Board (SIPB) every month to get feedback on
the State's small industries landscape, and stressed the need to
promote small industries to overcome the twin problems of
unemployment and industrial sluggishness.
Referring to a survey according to which the State stood at the
fourth position behind Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, Mr.
Naidu said that it was in the 25th position before he took over
the reins and expressed the hope that in another four years, the
State would forge ahead to reach the top slot. He said he would
seek the help of industry, services, tourism and IT-enabled
services sectors to move in that direction.
Mr. Naidu looked worried when he referred to the grim drought
situation which was plaguing the State for the third consecutive
year. However, major industrial units were helping in generating
some kind of income to the rural poor.
The Chief Minister talked about clean and green environment and
compared the green and healthy atmosphere at Karakambadi with the
dry and hot climate at Gajulamandyam on the other side of
Tirupati where an industrial estate, set up long ago, had been
languishing without any takers. Mr. Naidu was all praise for the
CMD of Amara Raja group Mr. Ramachandra N. Galla, an NRI, for
coming back to the State with investments on the invitation of
late Mr. N. T. Rama Rao.
The automotive plant is part of the completely integrated battery
manufacturing facility in India.
