CM announces ex-gratia for chess players
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI, SEPT. 24. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu,
today expressed grief and shock at the tragic death of four
budding chess players of the State in a ghastly road accident
near Puri in Orissa on Sunday.
A visibly moved Mr. Naidu said that the premature and untimely
end of the players at a time when AP's image in the field of
sports and games was growing, would not only leave a vacuum but
was also sure to dampen the spirits of the sports lovers of the
State.
The Chief Minister who was here today to lay the foundation stone
for a sports complex to be built by the TTD at a cost of Rs.6
crores announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs each to the families
of the ill-fated players. He also declared that a playground in
the native place or native district of the players who had died
would be named after them in their memory. He also responded
positively to a suggestion that the Ministry of Sports could
conduct memorial trophies in their names every year to perpetuate
their memory and as a mark of respect to their contribution to
enrich the image of the State.
