Manorama Madhwaraj to head KSTDC

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, SEPT. 24. For once, hopes among the Congress leaders and workers about their appointment to boards and corporations have come true and the Chief Minister, Mr. S. M. Krishna, has announced the second list of such rewards.

The Government on Monday appointed 13 Congress members as chairpersons of boards and corporations. Contrary to expectations, no MLA has been appointed and it is expected that the senior ones among them will be accommodated in the next round of appointments.

Two of the prominent party members to be appointed are the former Minister, Ms. Manorama Madhwaraj, and Mr. C. R. Narayanappa, former General Secretary of the KPCC. Ms. Madhwaraj, who entered the Assembly for the first time in 1972, had found herself in a blind alley with the party MLA, Mr. U. R. Sabapathy, consolidating his hold on the constituency with his election for the second time. In 1994, Mr. Sabapathy was elected as the Karnataka Congress Party candidate (an outfit which had been floated by Mr. S. Bangarappa) defeating Ms. Madhwaraj and he later joined the Congress.

Mr. V. Shankar, who had served under the Chief Minister, Mr. Krishna when he was the Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the KPCC, will be the Chairman of NGEF. Mr. H. Ramakrishna, who was the Media Coordinator of the KPCC, will head Mysore Minerals, and a Youth Congress veteran, Mr. R. V. Venkatesh, heads Mysore Lamps.

Those appointed chairpersons are: Mr. Arthur D'Costa (Sagar, Shimoga District), Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation, Ms. Manorama Madhwaraj (Udupi), Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation, Mr. Narayan Kale (Gulbarga), Gulbarga Development Authority, Mr. C.R.Narayanappa (Bangalore), Karnataka Slum Clearance Board, Mr. Sulaiman Thalkhani (Honnavar, Uttara Kannada), State Minorities Development Corporation, Mr. Hanumanthappa Gangappa (Yadgir, Gulbarga District), Karnataka Backward Classes Development Corporation, Ms. Vishala Ishwar (Bangalore), Karnataka Vidyut Kharkhane, Mr. M.Venkatappa (Bangalore), Karnataka State Temperance Board, and Mr. Chandrappa (former Vice-President, Chikmagalur Zilla Panchayat), Karnataka Leather Industries Development Corporation.

Mr. Yankannagowda (Shahapur, Gulbarga District), has been appointed Vice-Chairman, KSRTC.
