India loses to England

ABBEVILLE (FRANCE), SEPT. 24. Indian women suffered their second loss in the World Cup qualifying hockey tournament when they went down 1-2 to England on Sunday.

In a match marked by controversial umpiring decisions, India trailed 0-2 at half-time before narrowing the margin in the 50th minute. The visitors then lodged an official complaint against umpire Irina Sive Sovai of Russia for some biased decisions. England drew first blood in the ninth minute through Leisa King and Ane Smith made it 2-0 in the 24th minute. India's only goal was scored by inside-left Jyoti Sunita Kullu.

With one win, a draw and two losses, India is precariously placed with four points and needs to win both its remaining matches.
