Memories of 'Manikodi'
FOR YOUNGER generations, they might have heard the name,
`Manikodi', but no opportunity to read articles and stories
carried in the literary magazine of yesteryear.
To fill this gap, an anthology of works published in `Manikodi'
will be released at a function later this week.
Brought out by Kalaigan Pathippagam, the publication, comprising
the best of non-fiction written in Tamil during the 1930s, will
also have some short stories. ``It will not only have the best
works but also the ones that are of contemporary relevance'',
says Mr Nanda of the publishing house.
The pieces authored by stalwarts such as Pudumaipithan and
B.S.Ramaiah have been included in the book, which will be
received by Ms. Radha Srinivasan, daughter of the founder of
`Manikodi', `Stalin' Srinivasan. The lone survivor of that era,
Chitti (Mr P.G.Sundararajan), will participate in the book-
release function.
This is not the first time that Kalaigan Pathippagam comes out
with such collections. Earlier, it published the select works of
magazines such as `Kanaiyazhi', `Kasadathapara', `Submagangala'
and `Mundril'.
On the occasion, collections of stories of 20 writers will also
be released and the writers include Indira Parthasarathy,
Vallikannan, Neela. Padmanabhan, L.S. Ramamritham, Samuthiram and
Ashokamitran.
