Lawyers lathicharged
MATHURA, SEPT. 25. Nearly 40 advocates were injured, some
seriously, when police lathicharged pleaders showing black flags
to the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, at a rally here
today.
The advocates, demanding the setting up of a bench of the
Allahabad High Court at Agra, waved black flags as Mr. Vajpayee
began addressing the rally after launching a rural employment
scheme, official sources said. Twelve advocates were arrested.
The protesters came from Agra, Aligarh, Mathura, Mainpuri,
Ferozabad and Etah districts. The Prime Minister assured the
lawyers that he would look into the matter. and asked them to
raise it at an appropriate forum.
