HC allows Vengaboys show

By Our Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 25. Mr. Justice G.Raghu Ram of the A.P.High Court on Tuesday declared that there was no sufficient material on record to sustain the decision of the police, Ranga Reddy district, which denied permission for holding the controversial live show of 'Vengaboys' group.

The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by the organisers of the live show, who complained that the police, who had initially accorded permission for the show to be held on Tuesday, later cancelled it. The petitioners claimed that the police were not right in preventing such a show which was held in various cities in the country, including Ahmedabad and Lucknow.

The Government claimed that after taking into consideration complaints and reports from the intelligence the impugned order was passed. The judge called for the records and concluded that there was no such material to sustain the police version.

The judge directed the Government to depute a police officer not below the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to the show and video record. The Police officer has to stop the programme if it crossed the limits. The police were directed to provide enough security at the expense of the organisers. When it was brought to the notice of the court that the show now had to be conducted on Wednesday the judge directed the petitioners to make fresh representation and directed the police to pass orders immediately based upon the observations in the order.
