Terrorists' psychology
Sir, - It is reported that the Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K.
Advani, ``made light'' of the U.S. equating the Irish Republican
Army (IRA) with terrorist groups operating in Kashmir.
His statement, if indeed he made it, has not possibly taken into
account the IRA's long record of terrorism, resulting in the
death of hundreds of innocents.
The fact remains that the mind of the terrorist is no different
the world over. The IRA murdered Lord Louis Mountbatten and there
was also an attempt to kill the former Prime Minister of Britain,
Ms. Margaret Thatcher, and her Cabinet in a bomb attack.
The point is that there are far too many soldiers of fortune,
including unemployed youth on the drift who finding life
desperate and brutish take to terrorism or murder sanctified by
patronage. The motivations, apart from money of course, are quite
a few as any psychologist will explain.
Jaiboy Joseph,
Chennai
