Thorpe, Silverwood get the nod

LONDON, SEPT. 25. Graham Thorpe and Chris Silverwood have been called to bolster the England one-day squad for the forthcoming one-day series tour of Zimbabwe, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

They replace Yorkshire all-rounder Craig White and fast bowler, James Ormond, who were ruled out owing to injuries.

White twisted his right knee during training last week, while Ormond, who made his England debut in the final Ashes Test against Australia, is suffering from tendonitis.

Thorpe was left out of the original party because of concern about a hand injury. He has now been given the all-clear.

The Surrey batsman, averages almost 40 after 68 one-day appearances for England, despite a highest score of only 89.

Chairman of Selectors, David Graveney, confirmed after the announcement of Thorpe's selection, ``Thorpe was very much a part of England's plans for this winter's tour and the World Cup in 2003.
