Goa to meet Manipur in final
MARGAO, SEPT. 25. A golden goal by injured Vandana D'Cruz helped
host Goa down West Bengal 3-2 in an exciting semifinal match and
set up a title clash with Manipur in the final of the under-19
junior girls National football championship at Duler Ground,
Mapusa, on Tuesday.
Goa took an early lead in the fifth minute through Clarina
Valladares but Bengal skipper Rehena Khutan scored the equaliser
to have both the teams tied 1-1 at lemon break.
After the change of ends, striker Blanca Barreto gave Goa the
lead again only to see Bengal fight back to restore parity
through Medio Papai Ghosh.
With both the teams locked 2-2 at regulation time, the all
important goal came during extra-time when D'Cruz fired home to
send favourite Bengal packing.
Earlier, two first half strikes by Victoria Devi and Kiranmala
Devi helped Manipur beat a spirited Mizoram 2-0 and enter the
final to be played on September 27.
