Heavy inflows into Srisailam reservoir

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 26. The Srisailam reservoir on Wednesday started receiving a heavy inflow of one lakh cusecs which is likely to push up the storage level in this major reservoir to 857 ft from the current 852 ft (at mean sea level)--a gain of 5 ft.

According to information reaching the Vidyuth Soudha, the flood in the Krishna river has been caused by three factors--heavy rains in the local catchment of the river lying in Kurnool district, rains in parts of Karnataka and a discharge of 32,000 cusecs from the Alamatti dam which has already surplussed. Under a combined effect, a heavy quantum reached Jurala project where the gates have been opened to let out the flood benefiting Srisailam.

Mr V. Sivaprasada Rao, Chief General Manager, Grid Operation, AP Transco, said generation is being made to the tune of 200 MW at the hydel complex at Srisailam and an equal output at Nagarjunasagar in which the water level remains at 515.7 ft (at mean sea level), compared to its full reservoir level of 590 ft.
