Project to protect fishing colonies from sea erosion
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, SEPT. 26. With the ruling AIADMK keen on wresting Ripon
building from the DMK in the local bodies election, the new Chief
Minister, Mr. O. Paneerselvam, appears to have turned his
attention to the City's problems.
In the past two days, the water problem and the sea erosion in
north Chennai have topped the agenda of the review meetings the
Chief Minister had with officials at the Secretariat.
While Mr. Paneerselvam held detailed discussions with officials
of the Municipal Administration department on Tuesday, today he
focussed on the sea erosion in the Ennore area.
After the three-hour meeting, the Chief Minister said a Rs. 3.12-
crore project would be launched for protecting the four fishing
colonies in north Chennai from sea erosion. It would be
implemented with a subsidy of Rs. 1 crore from the Centre.
Besides, a rubble-mound sea wall was being constructed along the
Ennore expressway at a cost of Rs. 2.8 crores.
