Central nod for new airport terminal

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 26. Mr. V. S. Sivakumar, MP, has stated that the Union Civil Aviation ministry had granted permission for the construction of the new terminal at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

Addressing a press conference here today, he said permission was granted as per the decisions taken at the meeting of the authorities of the Civil Aviation Department in New Delhi on July 19.

The project for the construction of the new terminal has been approved subject to certain conditions of the Airport Authority of India. The State should undertake the financial liablity for the completion of the terminal. The finance for the day-to-day activities and repair work would be looked after by the Airport Authority after the handing over of the airport by the State Government.

Mr. Sivakumar said the LDF GOvernment had cheated the people by laying the foundation stone for the terminal even before permission was granted.

Mr. Sivakumar also urged the Chief Minister to appoint a Minister for looking after the development of Thiruvananthapuram and matters concerned with the capital city. He added that a committee consisting of elected representatives would submit a project for the prevention of flood in certain parts of the city during rainy seasons.

On the exclusion of MPs and MLAs from the reconstituted leadership of the KPCC, he said the decision would help the elected representatives to work for the development of their constituencies.

Being a senior leader of the party, Mr. Karunakaran had the right to give an opinion on every matter and his dissent should be viewed from a broader angle, Mr. Sivakumar said.
