Newspapers off stands

By A Correspondent

IMPHAL, SEPT. 26. The newspapers in Manipur did not hit the stands today. Editors and journalists are on a sit-in protest and indications are that there will be no newspaper for at least two weeks.

There has been a stand-off between two underground organisations in the valley and the media has fallen a victim. It is said that one of the outfit's members manhandled the office- bearers of the Manipur University Students' Union over observing of the ``rising day'' of one of the outfits. While one outfit ``told'' the editors that the news item on the incident should not be published, the other wanted the news item be published on the front page.
