Elegant creations from marble
THIS IS marble at its prettiest best. In soft pastel colours,
finely cut and delicately crafted, Andrea Anastasio's lathe
turned marble dinner sets, bowls, `handis' and artefacts,
showcased at `Amethyst', give a new edge to lifestyle
accessories. Perhaps marble is being used for the first time to
craft with remarkable facility everyday functional items, using
traditional craft skills such as carving, inlay work, etc.
The very contemporary dinner sets, plates and bowls are
lightweight and come in pretty pinks, green, black, grey and
white. The hidden textures and patterning trapped in the heart of
the stone has been brought out in each item, revealing magical
patterns while the cool beauty and elegance of marble makes even
a functional plate or bowl a conversation piece.
The conceptual and design handling of the dinner sets, tumblers,
coasters, vases, etc., is at once contemporary & 151;
minimalistic and craft embellished with carving, inlay work, etc.
Among the decorative marble items `Amethyst' showcases stunning
`lotus plates' in white, black and green textured marble.
Carved in the shape of a full-blown lotus, the plates are some 10
inches in circumference and superbly and minimally carved. The
lotus plates can be used as decoration vases or as big serving
plates. Grecian urns are also available at Amethyst's selling
exhibition along with Andrea Anastasio's minimalist vases and
candle stands. The finely cut `Lathe turned Marble Exhibition'
concludes on September 30, at Amethyst, 14, Padmavathi Road,
Jeypore Colony, Gopalapuram.
