13 held in M.P.
By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL, SEPT. 28. The Madhya Pradesh police arrested today 13
persons following the Centre's decision to ban the Students'
Islamic Movement of India. When contacted, the State Principal
Secretary (Home), Mr. Nanhe Singh, said that the situation was
``fully under control''.
SIMI has been active in Madhya Pradesh for quite some time now
and its volunteers have been engaged in expanding its network.
Some provocative posters that surfaced in different parts of the
State in the recent past, particularly in the State Capital, have
also been linked to the SIMI.
It was in this backdrop that the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister,
Mr. Digvijay Singh, had written to the Union Home Minister, Mr.
L.K. Advani, earlier this year demanding that organisations like
the Bajrang Dal and SIMI be banned immediately.
In his letter, the Chief Minister had expressed concern over the
arms training camps organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and
the Bajrang Dal at Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur. It was due to
these training camps that the youth belonging to the minority
community had started reacting, the Chief Minister had said
adding that all this was leading to unnecessary tension.
