IA to levy insurance surcharge
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 28. The Indian Airlines today announced an
insurance surcharge of Rs. 100 on every ticket per sector of
travel with effect from October 1 to meet the recently increased
cost input levied by insurance companies. The insurance surcharge
will be $ 2 per sector for tickets issued in India on dollar
fares for travel on domestic sectors.
The Indian Airlines said the surcharge would be levied on all
tickets issued on or after September 29 for travel on or October
1. However, on partially utilised tickets where travel had
already commenced prior to October 1, the incoming journey could
be completed till October 4. For travel undertaken on or after
October 5, the surcharge would become payable. On tickets issued
outside India against dollar fares for travel on domestic
sectors, the insurance surcharge of $ 2 a passenger per sector
would be levied effective October 15.
For travel on the Indian Airlines' international flights, the
insurance surcharge would be $ 2 per coupon for tickets issued in
India. The surcharge would be applicable for all categories of
passengers except infants.
