Sathyanarayanaswamy elected President of FKCCI

BANGALORE, SEPT. 28. Mr. M. Sathyanarayanaswamy is the new President of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

He was elected unanimously at the 84th annual general meeting of the federation held here on Friday.

Mr. K.N. Jayalingappa took over as the new Vice-President.

Mr. Sathyanarayanaswamy, who was the Vice-President, is a wholesale dealer in rice and other foodgrains. Unlike most of his predecessors, he is an active politician and a member of the Congress. Mr. Sathyanarayanaswamy is a former member of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. For some time, he was also in the Janata Dal.

Mr. Jayalingappa, who is prominent in the field of small-scale industries, is the son of late K.L. Nanjappa, who was the Development Commissioner for Small-Scale Industries, Union Government. He is a former president of the Karnataka Small-scale Industries Association and also connected with the ITI Ancillaries' Association.

Addressing the business session of the general meeting of the federation, the Minister of State for Information Technology, Prof. B.K. Chandrashekar, said he would shortly convene a meeting of the smaller IT companies to discuss their problems. Senior officials of the Industries, Finance and IT departments would be present. He stressed the need for establishing a small industries development council for interaction between industry and Government. Small-scale industries should be promoted as they generated employment, he added.

Prof. Chandrashekar said that he had taken up with the Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna, the question of opening a Karnataka showroom at the Sharjah Free Trade Zone at the Sharjah airport, to project the IT and other industries in the State.
