Example of doublespeak
Sir, - The Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, rightly said that
terrorism should not be linked to Islam, especially when
rightwing groups, such as the Shiv Sena, the Bajrang Dal, the VHP
and the RSS, are associated with the Central Government. But the
banning of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) on the
basis of rumours is contrary to what he said. This is yet another
classic example of doublespeak.
To end the double standards, all organisations - political,
social, religious, educational - should be registered and it
should be mandatory for them to abide by the Constitution in
letter and spirit.
