Chemfab Alkalis turns around

CHENNAI, SEPT. 28. Chemfab Alkalis has made a net profit of Rs. 6.07 crores for the 15 month period ended June 30, 2001 against a loss of Rs. 4.48 crores in the previous 12 month period ended March 31, 2000.

The turnover has risen to Rs. 68.02 crores from Rs. 35.77 crores. The figures for the current accounting period under reference include those of Chemfab Chlorates which was merged with Chemfab Alkalis with effect from April 1, 2000

After incurring losses for three consecutive years the company has made a turnaround. This was possible due to higher realisation on its main products - caustic soda lye and chlorine.

Interest charges were lower at Rs. 6.60 crores (Rs. 8.53 crores). Depreciation claimed Rs. 5.47 crores (Rs. 3.36 crores) and taxation Rs. 15 lakhs (nil).

The directors have recommended a dividend of 25 per cent.

Production of caustic soda lye was 38,977 tonnes (27,750 tonnes) and sales 37,796 tonnes (26,728 tonnes).
