Irreparable loss: Jayalalithaa


CHENNAI, SEPT. 30. The AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalithaa, said she was shocked to learn about the Congress leader, Mr. Madhavrao Scindia's death. ``Mr. Scindia was one of the outstanding politicians of India and served the country with deep commitment. He was highly personable and beloved of the masses. His loss is really irreparable,'' she said conveying her condolences to the bereaved family.

The DMK president, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, conveyed his and his party's condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Scindia and the Congress. Describing Mr. Scindia as a good friend, he said he was shocked to learn about the accident.

The Union Minister for Rural Development, Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, described Mr. Scindia's death as a loss not only to the Congress but also to the country. Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, he said the ``dynamic, youthful, popular leader,'' had dedicated his life to the cause of the common people.

The Congress Jananayaka Peravai general secretary, Mr. P. Chidambaram, said he was shocked and distressed to learn about the death of his good friend, Mr. Scindia.

He said Mr. Scindia had been in constant touch with him over the past three days enquiring about the coming local body polls.
