Heavy rain lashes State, traffic hit
By Our Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM, SEPT. 30. The well-marked low-pressure area of
Saturday over the west-central Bay of Bengal moved inland and now
lies over Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh,
according to the Cyclone Warning Centre, here on Sunday.
Under its influence rain or thundershowers are likely to continue
at many places along with heavy falls at one or two places over
coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
Chief amounts of rainfall recorded (in centimetres) along the
coastal areas of the State during the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m.
on Sunday were as follows: Kakinada, Paleru bridge - 15;

Srisailam 4 each.
A report from Guntur said one person was reportedly washed away
in the gushing waters of Golivagu near Rentichintala on Sunday.
Following rise in water levels in many rivulets flowing across
the district, traffic came to a grinding halt in most parts of
Palnadu region.
Passengers coming from Hyderabad towards Guntur district were
stranded at Macherla as the Chandravanka rivulet was flowing
almost five feet above the road level.
Traffic also got stopped on either side of the Naguleru bridge at
Dachapally and Karampudi. Road connection was cut off between
Vemavaram and Regulagadda-Chennayapalam-Velampally in Machavaram
mandal due to flash floods in Chakirevu. Police forces were
deployed at all vulnerable bridges across rivulets for rescue
operations.
There was widespread rain in Khammam district.
In Karimnagar district, rain in upland areas brought relief to
farmers. Heavy rain lashed Sircilla and Karimnagar divisions. In
East Godavari district, copious rain brought cheer to upland area
farmers.
Low-lying areas like Jagannadhapuram in Kakinada and Aryapuram in
Rajahmandry were waterlogged and traffic was disrupted in the
Konaseema area.
Our Hyderabad Special Correspondent writes:
Hyderabad and its suburbs also experienced heavy rain.
Forecast for Monday: Moderate to heavy rain is likely at most
places in Telangana and in Anantapur and Kurnool districts. Light
moderate rain likely in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.
According to the Relief Commissioner, Mr. D. C. Rosaiah, the rain
brought great relief to drought-affected areas.
