Plea to rename KC Canal after Kotla

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 30. Several Congress-I leaders, at a condolence meeting organised by the APCC on Sunday, urged the Government to rename the KC Canal after Kotla Vijaybhaskara Reddy in memory of the veteran Congress leader. They also want Kurnool district named after the departed leader.

The APCC-I president, Mr. M. Satyanarayana Rao, who presided, called upon the party leaders to fulfill the "last wish" of Vijayabhaksara Reddy that the unity in the party be sustained to pave way for its return to power.

Mr.Rao said he did not believe in groups and would strive hard to carry with him all the leaders of the party in fulfillment of the "dying declaration of our leader".

The leader of Congress-I Legislature Party (CLP), Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, said Mr.Vijayabhaskara Reddy was a remarkable person who carved a place of distinction for himself through dedication, commitment and loyalty to the party. The partymen should take a pledge to fulfill his last desire of seeing the party emerge united and stronger.

Mr.S.Jaipal Reddy, AICC spokesman, said Mr.Reddy was a spotless leader and never let down his loyalists. Mr.V.Hanumantha Rao, AICC secretary, said Mr.Vijayabhaskara Reddy did not forget his moorings though he occupied several important positions at state and national level. He urged the Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrababu Naidu to nake the KC canal after Vijayabhaskara Reddy.

The former Chief Minister, Mr.N.Janardhan Reddy, said the congressmen were unable to digest the reality that Vijayabhaskara Reddy was no more. Mr.Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, Mr.G.Venkataswamy, Mr.R.S.Rao, Mr.P.V.Rangaiah Naidu and others spoke.
