AP to forge tie-up with Rajasthan to promote tourism
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, SEPT. 30. The Andhra Pradesh Government is the process
of concluding a tie-up with the Rajasthan Government to jointly
promote tourism in their respective states.
The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, said that a
comprehensive package was being worked out on these lines as both
Hyderabad and Jaipur had tremendous potential to be developed as
heritage cities.
Mr. Naidu was addressing a gathering of tourism officials and
tourist operators after inaugurating the Seventh India
International Travel Mart being sponsored by the Department of
Tourism here on Sunday.
The three-day mart was being attended by delegates from Thailand,
Dubai, Malaysia and the States of Karnataka, U.P, Kerala and
others. The Chief Minister said the Government was committed to
preserving the heritage structures including palaces and mosques
in the Old City and several steps were being taken in this
direction.
He listed the efforts to take up pedestrianisation of the
Charminar and said corporates would be roped in to join hands
with the Government in its endeavour to protect the monuments.
Mr. Naidu said the Emirates Airlines was requested to start at
least two daily flights to Dubai, as against the present eight
flights in a week. "There is heavy rush for the existing flights
and there would be enough demand for the extra flights," he said.
The Indian Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management would
be set up on the lines of the Indian School of Business offering
graduate and post-graduate studies. He said permanent exhibition
facilities were being constructed in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam
for holding shopping festivals.
The Great Shopping Mall starting here from October 14 would be
one of its kind in Asia and the National Games early next year
would be held on a grand scale, he promised.
The Tourism Minister, Mr. E. Peddi Reddy, said that the State
Government had taken up 40 projects costing Rs. 800 crores for
developing tourist potential and to be spent in the next couple
of years.
Steps were on to attract more foreign tourists. The Roads and
Building Minister, Mr. K. Vijayarama Rao, Labour Minister, Mr. C.
Krishna Yadav, and senior officials were present.
