Maharashtra CM praises Marathi

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 30. Hyderabad has been a noteworthy centre of
Marathi culture and language and among the many prominent
Maharashtrians of this city was the late Dr. N.G.Nandapurkar --
writer, poet and teacher.
Inaugurating the birth centenary celebrations of Dr. Nandapurkar
organised by the Marathi Sahitya Parishad, Hyderabad, the
Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, complimented
the organisers for serving the cause of Marathi literature and
language.
He promised all help from the Maharashtra Government to publish
the works of Dr. Nandapurkar and also announced a grant of Rs. 5
lakhs in appreciation of the work of the Parishad in furthering
Marathi literature and language.
He highlighted the long historical links between Hyderabad and
areas of Maharashtra which were part of the Nizam state.
Underlining this link, the Hyderabad Parishad presented a
portrait of Dr. Nandapurkar to the Aurangabad Marathi Sahitya
Parishad.
Mr. Yeshwant Kanitkar spoke on the contribution of Dr.
Nandapurkar to the Marathi literary canon and Prof. D.P.Joshi
highlighted the work of the Marathi Sahitya Parishad in his
welcome address. Mr. N.D. Mahanor presided over the meeting.
