Recruitment racket busted

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 30. A three member Kochi-based recruitment racket was busted by the Museum police here today.

According to the police, Sheela Ravikumar (34), Bindumol (36) and Sachin Balakrishnan (21), all residents of Kottayam, had claimed that they were recruiting officers of Pegas Consultancy, a Kochi-based recruiting company. They also claimed that they were the main recruiting agents for several multinational companies and had invited applications from MCA holders, for the posts of software engineers in several leading computer companies, through advertisements in several dailies.

A sum of Rs. 100 was collected as registration fee from as many as 500 candidates who came to write the selection test at the Cotton HIll Girls High school this morning. However, no receipt was given and they did not check the certificates to prove the eligibility of the candidates.

Meanwhile, some students who appeared for the examination complained that the question paper contained several mistakes and was only of primary school standard. This made them suspicious and some of the candidates complained to the police.

Meanwhile, the recruiting agency authorities returned the amount to some candidates and tried to escape from the scene. However, when the police asked them to furnish the details of the recruiting agency, they showed only the xerox copy of a certificate signed by the Assistant Labour Officer of Kochi under the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act.

All three were later arrested by the police on charges of cheating. A sum of Rs. 14,000 was also seized from the group. A case has been registered.
