Leave history alone
Sir, - The controversy over the Kerala Government's decision to
dissolve the Council of Historical Research is not a simple
question of saffronisation versus secularisation as has been made
out in your report (Sept. 26).
In Kerala, there is in existence a process of crimsonisation of
the polity and academics. Many actions taken by the UDF
Government should be seen in the light of the need to undo the
crimsonisation process initiated by the Marxist-dominated LDF
Government.
The constitution of the Kerala Council of Historical Research was
part of the crimsonisation process as evidenced by its
membership. Another example is the University appointments made
by the LDF Government.
There is some flaw in the argument that the Gazette Department
will do the job of the Council of Historical Research. But a
Council dominated by crimson historians will do incalculable harm
to historical research and perspectives and to the progress of
Kerala itself.
