Relief to pensioners
Sir, - Full pension is calculated for 33 years of completed
service and for every year less than 33 years one per cent is
deducted. But for service beyond 33 years one per cent addition
is not there.
The Fifth Pay Commission has examined the case in depth and has
recommended additional pension of one per cent for every
completed one year of service beyond 33 years. But the Government
has not accepted this so far.
Recently the Government has sanctioned additional pension of
Rs.500 for Members of Parliament for every year beyond four years
of service.
As the number of Central pensioners having service beyond 33
years may constitute a small percentage of the total pensioners,
the quantum of financial outgo on this account may be very small.
But it may bring lot of relief to all pensioners.

Ernakulam, Kerala
