India suggests monitoring of terrorism
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, OCT. 1. India has welcomed the new resolution by the
U.N. Security Council on counter-terrorism but has demanded that
a mechanism be established to ensure that individual countries
curb extremist activity on their soil. ``We hope that the resolve
of the international community is now translated into concrete
action through effective implementation and monitoring by the
Security Council'', a statement by the Ministry of External
Affairs said.
Describing the Security Council Resolution 1373 as a ``positive
step'', the statement pointed out that there was a need for
international cooperation to counter the global sweep of
terrorism.
The resolution provided a framework for collective action as it
sought to deny funds, recruitment, weapon supplies and safe
havens for terrorists.
