Pseudo saviours

Sir, - This is with reference to the article `Avoid Osama's Trap' (Sept. 25) by Prof. Bernard Haykel. I would like to commend him for discussing `jehad'. However, the article is far from comprehensive and many points remain to be covered. It is pity that no Muslim scholar has been allowed to discuss `jehad' in your esteemed columns. It would be appropriate to elicit the viewpoints of leading Islamic scholars of India in this debate.

It is sad that the great religion of Islam has been held hostage to the September 11 incidents in the U.S. Enough is enough. For long we have tolerated people like Osama bin Laden who utilise the name of Islam for their selfish motives. It is time that all right-thinking Muslims exposed these self- proclaimed saviours of Islam.

Qurathul Ayn,

Bangalore
