No rewards needed

Sir, - It is obvious that the Bush administration is more informed about West Asia than South Asia. For, the U.S. President, Mr. George W. Bush, seems to be considering India and Pakistan on a par, which is like equating the U.S. with Iraq. Not only on the social, economical, political and military scale but also in terms of values.

Gen. Musharraf asked for the lifting of sanctions, waiver of loans, military packages, etc. for joining the coalition against terrorism. On the other hand, India gave the U.S. unconditional support. Without understanding this, Mr. Bush used the term `reward' for lifting some outdated sanctions against India. India does not need such `rewards' from the U.S.

Instead of giving such rewards and beating about the bush, he should live up to his words and target countries which sponsor terrorism. The U.S. cannot afford to remain blind to the fact that Pakistan is one such country. If this does not happen, then the `rewards' will be paid back with interest.

Rajeev Prabhu,

Pune
