All about concrete repair

CONCRETE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE ILLUSTRATED: Peter H. Emmons; Published by Galgotia Publications Ltd., 5, Ansari Road, Daryaganj, New Delhi-110002. Rs. 250.

CONCRETE REPAIR is today a major industry and each structure needs routine repair and maintenance ranging from simple protective coatings to repair of spalling concrete to strengthening of underdesigned components. Improper designed repairs, ill-conceived materials and poor workmanship often result in premature failures.

The author is the chairman of the technical guidelines committee for the International Association of Concrete Repair Specialists and has to his credit over 3000 concrete repair projects. With his rich experience, he has presented in this book concrete repair as an integrative process of analysis strategy and technique relating concrete behaviour directly to the field repair process.

This book begins with discussion of concrete behaviour addressing elements, which may lead to defects deterioration or damage. The defects may be due to improper design or substandard materials used, or poor construction. The damage may be due to overloading, chemical spill, earthquake or fire. The deterioration may be due to erosion, corrosion, alkali aggregate reaction or sulphate attack.

Reasonably priced, this book will be useful for all participants in the repair process.
