Lorry hits bicycle; two boys killed

BANGALORE, OCT. 2. Two boys were killed on the spot when a lorry
knocked down their bicycle in the Hebbugodi police limits in
Bangalore Rural District on Tuesday.
The dead have been identified as Javed Khan (8), son of Mr.
Mehaboob Pasha, and Sherwin (10), son of Mr. Binny, second
standard students in the Government Primary School at Begur.
The boys were returning home on a bicycle after attending Gandhi
Jayanthi celebrations at their school when a lorry knocked them
down near Begur Cross at around 11.30 a.m., police said.
According to police, rash and negligent driving by the lorry
driver caused the accident. The Hebbugodi Police have registered
a case. Police have begun a search for the lorry driver who is
reportedly absconding.
Couple die in accident: A newly married couple was killed after a
vehicle ran over their moped in Doddaballapura Rural Police
Station limits in Bangalore Rural District on Monday night.
The dead have been identified as Anjinappa (26) and Manjamma (23)
of Kanchiganala village. The accident took place at around 7.45
p.m. on Doddaballapura-Nandi Hills Road.
Police said that while Manjamma died on the spot, her husband
died of injuries in a hospital in the City late in the night. The
Doddaballapur Rural Police have registered a case.
Youth electrocuted: An 18-year-old labourer was electrocuted at a
construction site on 7th C Main Road in Koramangala 3rd Block on
Monday.
Police said the dead, identified as Prabhu, was washing his hands
with water from a drum when he came in contact with a live wire.
He was declared brought dead at St. John's Hospital. Prabhu
hailed from Shankaripura in Chittapura taluk of Gulbarga.
The Koramangala police have booked a case against the building
contractor, Shivakumar, and the electrical contractor, Nanjaiah.
Liquor seized: Police seized a lorry on Sunday, and recovered
contraband liquor valued at Rs. 21 lakhs. The Vijayanagar police
found the lorry which had been abandoned near the Government
Primary School, Gangondanahalli. It is suspected that the persons
who were transporting the liquor may have fled on seeing police.
The Chandra Layout police are investigating.
